How much does junk removal cost in Halifax?
Most Halifax junk removal companies, including JunkWay Halifax, price by volume: you pay for the space your items take up in the truck. A mattress takes very little space. A full garage cleanout can fill most of a truck.
- Minimum load: one or two pieces, like a mattress or an appliance.
- Quarter truck: a room’s worth of furniture and boxes.
- Half truck: a small basement or a large room plus extras.
- Full truck: most of a house, an estate or a big renovation.
What changes the price
Volume matters most. Heavy or awkward items, stairs, special disposal (like fridges) and unsorted piles can add time.
Questions to ask any company
- Is the price firm?
- Does it include labour, fuel and disposal?
- Is HST included?
- Do I need to be home?
- What happens to my items afterward?
Send us a photo for a close estimate. We confirm a firm price on site before we load anything.
What can and can’t a junk removal company take?
We take: furniture, appliances, mattresses, electronics, renovation debris, yard waste, general household junk, and larger jobs like hot tubs, decks and sheds.
We can’t take: paint, stains and solvents, propane tanks, chemicals, fuel, asbestos, biohazards and items with bed bugs.
Not sure about an item? Use the checker above or send a photo. We sort what we collect: usable items go to charity where possible, electronics and metal go to recycling, and only the rest goes to disposal.
Estate cleanout checklist for Halifax families
- Check legal authority. Confirm who has authority over the home and its contents before discarding anything. A lawyer can advise you; this is general information, not legal advice.
- Find important items first: documents, jewellery, cash, photos and keys. Check drawers, coats and freezers.
- Sort into four piles: keep, sell, donate, remove.
- Offer items to family and friends with a set deadline.
- Book the haul-away for what remains. We load everything and sweep up.
- Do a final walk-through of closets, attic, basement, shed and garage.
If the home is going on the market, clear it before photos and showings.
Junk removal vs. bin rental vs. a dump run
- Junk removal: the crew does the lifting, and you spend a few minutes. Best for furniture, mixed junk and cleanouts.
- Bin rental: you load it yourself over days or weeks. Best for long renovations. Check placement rules and extra fees.
- DIY dump run: cheapest for a small load if you own a truck. Add fuel, tipping fees, your time and the risk of injury.
For heavy items, tight timelines or mixed loads, a haul-away usually saves the most time and effort. Send us a photo and compare.
Donate, recycle or dispose: what goes where?
- Donate furniture, housewares, clothing, books and tools in good shape. Call ahead, since charities are selective.
- Recycle TVs, computers and other electronics through an approved program. Never put them in the garbage.
- Handle hazardous items like paint, chemicals and propane through a household hazardous waste depot.
- Check your municipality’s collection rules for bulky items before you book a haul-away.
For large amounts or mixed loads, call us. We sort what we collect and send usable and recyclable items on where we can.
